Have a positive mindset
towards restoring body balance

As we go about our daily lives...

we tend to ignore the nagging aches and pains in our bodies, and file them as something to be dealt with later. However, it doesn’t stop us from stressing about them in the meantime alongside our daily struggles which can lead to other complications as our bodies store that stress in our muscles.

At New Form Therapy we offer expert treatments from deep tissue massages to neuromuscular therapy to help with easing those chronic niggles and aid the body in recovering from (and help prevent) injuries so that you can have one less thing to stress about in this current climate.

about

Terry Thomas

Growing up, I was fortunate enough to play various sports such as football, tennis, and athletics. However, I suffered from many injuries as a result of playing. My most severe being a broken leg during the final year of my degree. After studying a joint honours degree in Psychology and Sports Studies, I worked within the financial industry. However, after a year and a half I realised it wasn’t what I wanted to do. I wanted to provide a service where I felt my contribution helped individuals, similar to how the surgeon and physiotherapists helped with my physical rehabilitation but in my own way. I still wanted my role to be in line with my personal interests. Sports and rehabilitation fit that category, therefore in 2021 I began studying a level 5 diploma in Sports massage and remedial soft tissue therapy at the north London school of sports massage. Now I hope to provide a service that can help aid in the recovery from injuries as well as relieve discomfort from the stresses of daily life.

Postural and gait analysis

I can provide pre and post event treatments to either prepare you for an upcoming event or help the body recover from the stresses of your preferred sport. This could be achieved through a general sports massage that incorporates a variety of basic techniques such as effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, and friction as well as more advanced techniques like Positional Release and Muscle Energy Techniques to help reset any overstimulated muscles to a relaxed state. This can also be applied to anyone who has a job that requires you to sit or stand for long uninterrupted periods.

I can also provide a service that aids in the recovery from new or old injuries/ surgeries. By releasing any trigger points that are stimulating your nerves or using various Soft Tissue Release techniques, I can reduce the tension held in your fascia that is either causing discomfort or inhibiting the body from efficiently repairing any damage. In addition to working through your fascia, I can help with identifying what the issue may be. Through postural assessments and gait analysis, I can uncover any compensations that could be causing you pain and target the source of the issue.

Massage therapy is also good for restoring balance to your mental state. Whether you are stressed about sports/ performance, work or just general life, part of my role as a therapist is to help you navigate these challenges. Through the endocrine system, massage can aid the body in reducing stress hormones such as cortisol that can be elevated in the blood during exercise and increase the amount of serotonin and melatonin to help improve sleep and reduce the symptoms of depression/ low mood. This can be achieved through breath work to help regulate breathing patterns and encourage mindfulness as it can give you the opportunity to reset.
